POLLING for the local level government (LLG) elections in Central will begin on Saturday, returning officer Kila Egaba said yesterday.

He said a large number of candidates, including women, would contest the elections, which had been trouble-free so far.

Egaba said campaigning in all districts must end at midnight on Friday, with polling to begin at 8am on Saturday for some wards under a polling schedule.

He said with 13 LLGs and 205 wards in the province, they have set up 800 polling booths at various locations and 360 polling officials would be moving around in groups of five to coordinate polling over a two-week period.

“All preparations are going well at our end and the Assistant Returning Officers in each of the five districts are currently conducting workshops for their polling and counting

officials so everything runs smoothly during the polling period,” Egaba said.

He appealed to all candidates and their supporters to maintain peace and respect for election officials.

Egaba confirmed that sufficient funding was being provided by the Central provincial administration to conduct the LLG elections.

He said counting for councillors’ seats would be done at schools or church halls while counting for presidents’ seats would be done at the district headquarters.

Security would also be provided during polling to ensure everything runs according as planned.
