THE number of investors in Madang is on the rise.

Madang Indigenous Business Council said potential investors were convinced on the vast business opportunities in the province.

Council president Stotck Kamya, however said, this has raised concerns from landowners who felt that said investors were dealing directly with certain people regarding business opportunities.

Projects like the Pacific Marine Industrial Park (PMIZ), RD Tuna cannery, Ramu nickel and Yandera have drawn interest not only from local investors but also from those overseas, he said.

“I’ve seen that our SMEs (small-to-medium enterprises) could not sell without foreign investors,” Kamya said.

Kamya has pointed out the issue of land-grabbing, which was also affecting the locals.

“Land transfers in Madang province need to be monitored … and I’m urging the locals to register their land … whether it be state land or traditional land, there seem to be no control in people moving in using it for business ….I don’t know who to blame for this,” he added.
