ACTING Deputy Prime Minister Leo Dion has urged the East New Britain provincial assembly to work with newly-elected deputy governor Ereman Yareng in moving the province forward.

Dion was in the province on Monday to attend the provincial assembly meeting.

The meeting focused on the election of the deputy governor and the swearing-in of four community representatives for youths, sports, women and church groups.

He said Yareng had more than 20 years of experience in provincial politics and was a suitable candidate for the job.

Dion is confident that Yareng will contribute greatly to the development of the province.

He said the governor and his deputy would not achieve the provincial objectives without the help of others.

“Therefore, I am calling on you, the residents, appointed leaders and provincial members, to put aside your differences and move East New Britain forward,” Dion said.

Yareng is the president of East Pomio local level government and the chairman of provincial works.

He was elected unopposed at the provincial assembly and sworn-in by lawyer Bernard Kilion.
