Finalists set for awards

 THE Westpac Outstanding Women Awards will be presented tonight in Port Moresby. The finalists are:

The PricewaterhouseCoopers Private Sector Award: 

Angelyn Baker, marketing manager, Super Value Stores – in her capacity as the marketing manager for Super Value Stores group of companies, Angelyn manages a team of eight people in the marketing and graphics teams. 

Anthonia Apurel,  general manager finance, Trukai Industries – is the first Papua New Guinean at Trukai Industries to hold a position as senior as general manager finance. She is the first female employee to be given that role. 

Patronilla Paisi, manufacturer, SP Brewery – has risen through the ranks at the brewery, after beginning her career as a management trainee. She implements and manages quality control systems for the manufacturing process. 

Steamships Public Sector Award :

Dr Dinah Dovana-Ope,  head of di­vi­sion/senior lecturer, University of Goroka – looks after teacher education, educational psychology and curriculum studies and her division plays a major role in the training of teachers and instructors for early childhood, primary, secondary and post-vocational technical education sectors. 

Rose Singadan, manager, Department of Environment and Conservation – is a manager in the sustainable environments programmes wing and heads the terrestrial protected areas branch and has a key responsibility of ensuring the biodiversity of the country is conserved and protected. 

Dr Mobumo Sanga-Kiromat,  country director, Clinton Health Access Initiative – is responsible for managing all aspects of the Clinton Health Access Initiative’s work in Papua NJew Guinea, including strategic planning, financial oversight, project implementation and team management to ensure the overall success of the programme in meeting its set goals and objectives.  

SP Brewery Entrepreneur Award:

Sarah Shelley, managing director, Winestar – is the managing director of Winestar, which specialises in brewing and bottling wine from locally grown fruits. She is responsible for the overall operations and administration of the company.

Ruth Rua, director-trainer, Rabaul Business Studies – is a strong business woman who advocates on issues affecting young girls and boys in Rabaul and the country. 

Michaeline Sovek, director-manager, Wizzard Service Station – is a young business woman competing with Asians in the fuel services and civil construction. 

Trukai Community Award: 

Maria Linibi, foundation president, PNG Women in Agriculture Development Foundation – Maria fulfils this pro-bono role actively; networking with development partners, farmers and tirelessly building the capacity of female farmers.  

Cecilia Kuman, president, Aviamp No. 2 Women’s Group – is a self-employed subsistence farmer and is the president of a non-government organisation known as Aviamp No. 2 Women’s Group, which she registered with the Western Highlands Council of Women. 

Penny Sagembo, founder-project coordinator, Teimbari Children’s Care Inc – is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the organisation, its fundraising activities, reporting to donors and taking care of all project staff.

IBBM Young Achiever’s Award:

Dorish Cheryl Mondo Mulas, owner/manager, D&J’s Catering and Events – A chef by profession, her business involves catering for functions, children’s menu, cocktail finger food, events breakfast, lunch and dinner packages, floral decorations, event set up. 

Winsome Nenewa, intern, the Salvation Army International Social Justice Commission New York – has had many opportunities to learn about justice, contributes in many areas concerning justice.
