A COMPREHENSIVE review which includes a proper audit on the funds spent on the Kumuls’ World Cup campaign for a report to be furnished for public consumption, was necessary.

The call comes from Oro Governor Garry Juffa, a former PNG Rugby Football League chairman, who also asked why a large entourage, some of whose expenses were covered by the tax payers, travelled to England to watch the Kumuls games.

Juffa also called for coach Adrian Lam to be sacked because of his tendency to ignore the playing ability of the PNG-based players during the campaign.

He questioned Lam’s ability as a coach and called for Michael Marum, who has now being an assistant coach to two World Cups, to replace him.

Marum was an assistant coach to Lam at the 2008 World Cup in Australia and played a similar role in the just completed campaign.

“He (Lam) has failed miserably and has cost PNG too much,” Juffa said.

The cost of 2013 Kumuls campaign is estimated to be at least K3 million with the support in cash and kind  provided through corporate sponsorship and two state-owned enterprises PNG Power and Air Niugini involved as sponsors.

Exxon Mobil was the major sponsor, however it could not be established whether they were encouraged to be involved due to attractive tax concessions.
