PoMGH ward ‘blessed’ with beds, mattresses

PATIENTS at Port Moresby General Hospital’s Obstetrics and Gynecology (O&G) wards will no longer wait in long queues for a bed.
The PNG Tribal Foundation, Samaritan Aviation and Medicraft Hill-Rom, donated 43 beds and 88 mattresses worth K400,000 to the maternity ward on Wednesday.
The beds were delivered from two hospitals in Brisbane and Sydney following a personal request from PoMGH chief executive officer Sam Vegogo.
Mr Vegogo said his acquaintances with Samaritan Aviation had always helped him with much needed equipment for the hospitals he worked in.
The decision to place the beds and mattresses in O&G is due to the shortage of beds in the labour and delivery wards.
“Mothers sleep on the floor while waiting for a bed to be available for them before or after delivery. This is not good for them, which is why these beds will go into their ward so that they can have a comfortable stay.
“I am very thankful to Medicraft Hill-Rom and Samaritan Aviation and everyone else involved in getting these beds and mattresses to my hospital,” Mr Vegogo said.
