THE people of Wewak, East Sepik, had a chance of sharing the Games experience when the 2015 Pacific Games mascot, Tura, showed up at the township on Friday.

Tura and the 2015 Pacific Games team visited five schools and   Games sponsors based in Wewak.

Team leader and executive manager marketing and communication Ken Siminji said the team met with the provincial administrator Otto Ganai and briefed him of the purpose of the ‘Tura Country Tour’

Ganai, when given a proposal for the engagement of live sites for provinces during Games time, said he was happy for such an initiative to involve provinces in sharing the Games experience.

“Our visit included an all-girls school where 730 young ladies cheered for Tura dancing to the Games theme song ‘We Are Heroes’.

“Tura displayed his signature dancing moves for the students.

“Three girls left the crowd and joined Tura on stage.

“The Kokomo was received with excitement everywhere,” Siminji said.

The provincial administration and Wewak chamber of commerce hosted a reception dinner for the “Tura Country Tour” team.

The ‘Tura Country Tour’ aims to connect the PNG to the Games through a shared celebration of the Games mascot.

The team returned yesterday.
