Appeal for help

TWO young Papua New Guinea female weightlifters from Hanuabada Amateur weightlifting club are appealing to business houses and kind-hearted citizens to assist them financially as they prepare for their debut at an international event in Suva, Fiji, next month.
Samuel sisters, Seura, aged 13 and Ranuinu 17, started training last year for the Fiji Games from May 2-7 in Suva.
But their preparations for the upcoming tournament are in limbo with no support forthcoming from the corporate houses to realise their dreams at the international scene.
They duo will be following the footsteps of fellow female colleagues, Dika Toua, Rita Kari, Joddy Kokiva and Arua Mea.
After seeing their female colleagues take up the sport, the Samuel sisters joined up and have been training under the watchful eyes of their great mentor Douglas Mea.
Raniunu kicked off her brief career at the age of 12, while introducing her younger sister to the sport only last year.
Ranuinu had the opportunity to represent PNG at the age of 14 in 2007 when she was selected in the 48kg category to represent PNG.
Unfortunately, she could not make the final squad due to lack of financial support to meet various requirements which include levy fees, travelling expenses and accommodation.
The sisters have one hurdle ahead of them to qualify at the games in Fiji next month to represent PNG in the Oceania championship in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in August.
