THE people of Enga are preparing a big celebration to acknowledge the achievements of Governor Sir Peter Ipatas (pictured) who was recently knighted last month.

Thousands of people from the 19 local level governments in the five districts are expected to celebrate the honour accorded to the man they call the “action governor”.

Chairman of the organising committee Councillor Angalo Kap of the Laiagam Local Level Government told The National that Sir Peter received the award on merit.

Kap said Enga used to be called the “back page” because of lack of development.

“This is not the case anymore under the leadership of Grand Chief Sir Ipatas,” he said.

Sir Peter became governor in 1996 and changed the province around in terms of development in health, education, infrastructure, roads and bridges.

Kap said the site for the new Wabag General Hospital had already been cleared.

“With these big tangible developments, we are all prepared to say thank you and celebrate his achievements,” he said.

Kap said Sir Peter’s free education policy was recently adopted by the Government.
