Online selection brings complications for college

MORE than 3000 school leavers applied for Balob Teachers’ College in Morobe but unfortunately the college can accept only 141, principal Jerry Hendingao says.
He said despite the name list for the final selected 141 school leavers posted on the board, those who chose Balob as their first choice and were selected online, were calling and emailing for acceptance letters.
He said when the college did its selection in the past, acceptance and offer letters were sent to those selected.
“Now with the school leavers applying online, it has created a situation where students have to provide ID cards from previous schools and offer letters to collect their acceptance letters at the school to register,” Hendingo said.
He said another concern that the college was facing now was with the non-school leavers.
“All non-school leavers that apply to the college go through strict screening processes to verify their documents and eligibility first before being accepted.”
Hendingo said Balob Teachers’ College was still waiting for the non-school leaver list that was sent to the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology last year for documents vetting.
“This is not only Balob Teachers’ College that is waiting for the non-school levers’ list but also other teachers’ college around the country,” he said.
He said the registration and orientation weeks had passed, adding the reason behind the prolonging of the release of the name list for non-school leavers.
He said students, parents and guardians should know in advance to be well prepared before the lecture started but for this year, that was not the case for non-school leavers.

  • we thought that only school leavers only should be screen through department of higher education science and technology while non school leavers should be screen by MSU and put out the name list out and parents and guidiens should be getting themselves ready for paying the upfront fees as soon as possible.
