WITH the country facing a shortage of condoms, the National AIDS Council Secretariat is urging everyone to refrain from engaging in risky sexual activities.
Regional manager Valentine Tangoh said they were still waiting for the release of the boxes of condoms stored at the Murray Barracks warehouse.
“I want to assure the public and provinces that as soon as we get the condoms from the Murray Barracks warehouse, we will distribute right away. It’s a priority,” he said.
“People are texting and calling and asking. Provinces have come and asked for condoms – provinces in the Highlands regions, Momase. Just this morning, Central enquired about it.
“We know how desperate they are and we know it’s very important that the condoms are released before the national election.”
He said condoms was a precaution against sexually transmitted infections and most provinces were facing shortages.
“Condoms are short at the moment because we have outstanding storage fees problem (with Murray Barracks). We need to make upfront payment before they are released,” he said.
“They can just refrain from social risky behaviours so that they keep themselves safe. The election poses a lot of challenges and also increases in risky behaviour.
“We just want everyone to refrain from practising it.”
He said the National Executive Council would endorsing the National AIDS Council Secretariat council so it can fully function and have access to its bank account.
“We have been waiting for the endorsement of our council, it has been affecting the administration of our organisation as well,” he said.
