THE Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation is already looking forward to the 7th PNG Games in March in Kimbe West New Britain.
Foundation chief executive officer Peter Tsiamalili Jr said the rescheduling from November to March was good to make way for a successful hosting of the Under-20 Women’s World Cup, and the Government’s changing of the PNG Games format to a triennial event the common interest of participating provinces.
“If we were going to host the PNG Games in November, we wouldn’t have succeeded because we would have spread our resources thinly and we wouldn’t have given prominence to the World Cup it deserved if we were running the PNG Games concurrently, so March is a great time,” Tsiamalili Jr said.
The chief executive said facilities for the PNG Games were 85 per cent complete, with only a few issues to be addressed before the Games.
“The facilities are 85 per cent done, all the satellite sporting facilities are 97 per cent,” he said.
“We have some challenges with the funding but the track will be completed.”
He said that the track at the San Remo Stadium would be the first for the New Guinea Islands region.
“The track will be the first one in the New Guinea Islands so it is going to be exciting for the region,”  Tsiamalili said.
