TEAM PNG have seen positive results after day two of the Youth Commonwealth Games in Nassau, Bahamas, chef de mission Michael Henao, pictured, said.
In tennis, flag-bearer Mathew Stubbings beat Antigua’s Cardell Williams Jr to progress to the next round.
“Stubbings won in straight sets, winning the first, then digging deep in the second set to come from behind to take out the match to go through to the next round,” Henao said.
In the men’s 200m breaststroke, Ryan Maskelyne swam a personal best of 2:19:72 which was also the third fastest time clocked.
“In the finals Maskelyne clocked 2:20:33, unfortunately the marshalls had brought the start time forward by almost an hour thereby eating into Ryan’s training and preparation time,” Henao said.
“It wasn’t enough for a medal but Maskelyne has not let the result deter him from his goals and he has already re-set his focus on the 50m breaststroke which he’ll swim today.”
In athletics a technical meeting was held and manager Wilson Malana said the stage was set for a high quality competition.
Letisha Pukaikia and Lawrence Lamond are confirmed for the track and field events at the Thomas Robinson Stadium. Pukaikia will run the women’s 200m dash preliminarytoday and Lamond will run the men’s 200m dash preliminary.
In beach volleyball, the pair of Damien Aisi and Tonnie Gina wrestled the game back from Trinidad and Tobago to  win 2-1.
