THE increasing demand for products within the country was attributed to exposure that people have to new ideas and knowledge.

BNG Trading Company Ltd Jon Pittar said with Papua New Guineans having access to new ideas, they have now opened up to trying out new products and ideas.

“Demand for products within the country has generally been very, very strong. We’ve got a better educated population and we’re getting a rise in middle class in PNG.

“I think that’s great.”

Pittar said that had got people aspired to do and try out new products.

“They’ve tried different products, they are willing to experiment, and that’s great – that’s how the global economy works.”

“It’s all about education.

“As you’re educated, you tend to see that better the education, the better and faster the middle class is growing,” he said.

Pittar was speaking during the inaugural BNG Trading Company Ltd trade show and exposition held in Port Moresby on Wednesday.

He said aim of the expo was to bring together suppliers and distributors to one place so as to get customers to see and buy products at one central location.

“The idea about the expo was to allow our suppliers – PNG and external – to come to one place,” he said, adding that that included retailers, wholesalers, hotels, restaurants, bakeries, etc.

The BNG group of companies has been operating in PNG since 1924 and imports and distributes products throughout the country.
