‘Prosperity depends on well-trained citizens’

THE Lutheran University of Papua New Guinea, in conjunction with the Charles Sturt University of Australia, graduated 19 master of education academic staff from Balob Teachers College, in Lae, Morobe.
LUPNG executive establishment officer Brent Kilback said the two institutions had placed priority on preparing well-trained citizens “because as a newly developing institution building human resource capacity in the academic arena is what the nation needed”.
He said already there were signs of better results in classrooms at the Balob Teachers College.
The Morobe provincial government, the national government and the church committed K1.5 million for training the academics.
“The prosperity of a city does not depend on accumulation of great riches, the building of walls, houses, many guns and armour,” Kilback said.
“Rather, a city’s greatest and best prosperity, salvation and power depends on many fine, learned, sensible, righteous and well-trained Christian citizens.”
Kilback upon congratulating the proud graduates said “you are now part of the fine traditions of excellence and part of the global Lutheran education community”.
“Accomplishing an MEd degree places you at forefront of education in the country.
“Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords and strengthen your stakes” he said.
“As professional educators, always expand your knowledge base, teaching, researching and serve the community,” Kilback said.
The groundbreaking ceremony of the state-of-the-art university will be held tomorrow at the Martin Luther Seminary on Malahang on Busu Road.
