The Yangoru police station was damaged on Thursday, exhibits taken and those locked up freed by opportunists, police say.

A RIOT in Yangoru-Saussia, East Sepik on Thursday has left a 24-year-old male dead and two others severely injured, police commander Supt Albert Beli says.
He said a disruption happened during an event hosted at the School of Excellence at Yangoru and police were outnumbered by opportunists.
Beli said a fight broke out between people from Kwarapri and Parina and Waramuru villages.
Police are yet to know the cause.
He said people from Parina and Waramuru chopped and killed 24-year-old Nemiah Karasman from Wamayang and injured two others from Kwarapri on Thursday.
Beli said opportunists took advantage of the situation and ransacked the police station, removed exhibits such as home-made guns and freed those kept in holding cell.
He added that two bush material houses were burnt, two vehicles damaged and stones were thrown at the court house.
Beli said several civil servants working there fled the Yangoru station in fear of their lives.
He met with people from Kwarapri the next day (Friday) who requested for the police station commander at Yangoru be replaced.
Beli yesterday said another commander would be appointed in the interim to head the Yangoru police station.
He said they planned to send a 14-man team to be stationed at Yangoru. He urged those with stolen exhibits to return them to the station before police moved in to check each household.
