12 provinces present budget

Treasury has received the budget of 12 of the 22 provinces, says Treasurer and Deputy Prime Minister Charles Abel.
He said more provinces were expected to make their budget presentations next week when Parliament resumes.
On Wednesday, West Sepik, Western, Manus, Chimbu and Eastern Highlands gave their money plans to Abel.
“There is no time limit as such, buy they (provinces) cannot expand under the 2018 Budget unless they get the endorsement of Treasury,” Abel said.
“They have to convene their assemblies, get sworn in and conduct their business.
“They should pass their budgets and come in.
“Because the parliament session is on (next week), many of them will take this opportunity to come in and present their budgets.
Last week Morobe provincial government presented its budget of about K402.2 million, the largest of the provinces.
Abel commended those provinces that had presented their budgets and urged others to follow.
“We are anticipating that most of them will take the opportunity with the Parliament session to make their budget presentations,” he said.
“We want to have all the provinces completed by next week.
“It depends on each province, on how fast they can conduct their provincial executive council meetings and pass their budgets.”
