THE Yame people of Daulo, Eastern Highlands, have made arrangements for the staging of the annual Yame sports tournament.
Games coordinator Rueben Sengere said 12 teams from the area would be battling it out for the Ben Sapu shield and consolation prizes.
He said six rugby league teams for men’s division and six volleyball teams for women’s category would be vying for the shields.
Although he did not disclose how much money was spent to organise the event, Sengere said the event was expected to be bigger and better than in  previous years.
Sengere said the challenge would start next Monday and end on Jan 2.
He said the tournament had been held since 1995 with the aim of keeping families together and minimising law and order problems during the Christmas and New Year periods.
He lauded the initiative because the tournament had proven successful.
He said teams would be coming from Watabung and Kama for the games.
