A 14-YEAR-OLD boy was knocked down by a PMV bus and died on the spot at Mambu market outside Madang town yesterday.
According to witnesses and police, the bus was travelling at high speed when it hit Frank Wamoi who was walking on the roadside.
The parents told The National that their son who was now deceased was the second in the family of six children.
The father, Robert Wamoi, said he was shocked when he saw his son sprawled in a pool of blood on the road.
“I ran to help him but he had sustained serious injuries,” he said.
“I was lost for words when police and a World Vision team arrived at the scene. A World Vision vehicle transported us to the hospital while the police gave chase to the vehicle.”
Wamoi’s mother said she did not believe when she heard the news that her Yagaum Elementary School son was killed in a road accident.
“I had high hopes for him that he would be somebody in the future, who would work and help the family,” she said.
Madang police commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang said police were investigating the accident and the vehicle and owner had been identified.
