MORE than 150 PNG students have enrolled for the bachelor degree programmes in Philippine universities.

The first semester began on Monday this week.

The students have been arriving since April 8 and have toured the universities and sat for entrance examinations in their chosen schools.

The Paradise International Education Consultancy (PIEC) conducted orientations on Filipino culture, homesickness, and the school systems.

The students participated in city tours, outings and other activities prepared for them.

Rita Kapia of Boroko, who arrived in Cebu in April, said: “I am really excited about studying here in the Philippines. So far, I am enjoying my stay here and I’m learning a lot about the Filipino culture.

“This is closer to home than Kentucky, USA, where I did my high school.”

She enrolled at the University of San Carlos for a bachelor of science degree in hotel and restaurant management.

A statement from the consultancy said “more students are expected to fly to the Philippines in the next couple of weeks”.

The students are administered under PIEC, a Filipino education placement agency based in Cebu, Philippines.

It provides PNG students the opportunity to take advantage of the world class education offered by schools in the Philippines.

The agency can enroll students in high school or university.

Through PIEC’s facilitation services, a student all-inclusive annual expenses are K20,000 to K25,000.

The annual expense includes education placement, orientation, study skills seminars, visa assistance, tutoring and pastoral care, accommodation and managing students’ finances.
