18yrs-old charged with murder

AN EIGTHEEN-YEAR-OLD man from Baluan island in the Balopa local level government has been arrested and charged with murder, Manus Police Commander Chief Insp David Yapu says.
Police identified the deceased as Anley Musio.
Chief Insp Yapu said the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday at Lorengau town during a drinking session.
He said there was an argument between the suspect and deceased over the beer.
He said the suspect allegedly picked up a piece of timber and hit Musio three times on the head causing him to collapse to the ground.
Police said Musio was rushed to Lorengau General Hospital but died the next day (Saturday).
The body is in morgue awaiting an autopsy. The accused is expected to appear in Lorengau Committal Court next Wednesday.
Chief Insp Yapu warned youths to refrain from drinking excessively and to remain in their residences and help their parents.
He urged those youths who had completed their grade 8, 10 and 12 national examinations to involve in productive activities such as sports or helping their parents or communities and to steer clear of illegal activities like alcohol and drug consumption.
In another incident, a 26-year-old man was arrested and charged with the sexual penetration of a 13-year-old girl.
Police alleged that on Sunday evening, the accused grabbed the victim and forced her into the bush near Wamundu settlement and assaulted her.
Chief Insp Yapu said the victim tried to calling out for help, struggling to free herself but was overpowered by the suspect.
He said the victim was later rescued by her father with the help of the community and reported the matter to the police and the victim was taken to the hospital.
The suspect is expected to appear in court charged with sexual penetration of a minor next Wednesday.
