2 shot, injured by police

POLICE shot and injured two men in separate incidents in Northern’s Popondetta, police commander Sr Insp Ewai Segi says.
“One was a fugitive who escaped from prison and the other a robber; both are recovering in hospital,” he said.
Sr Insp Segi said when police approached the fugitive, “he ran and was shot in the leg”.
“The robbery suspect was with a few accomplices when policemen intercepted the gang that robbed a shop in Popondetta town,” he said.
“The gang members ran into the settlements in town and policemen gave chase; one of them was then shot in the leg.
“Both suspects will be charged after they have recovered.”
In another case, two men in a delivery truck were held up in Kokoda’s Ilimo on Saturday.
“The driver and the crew and a Chinese man were robbed of an undisclosed amount of money and supplies,” Sr Insp Segi said.
