2018 tough, says Wereh

WORKS Secretary David Wereh says 2018 has been a tough year trying to deliver capital works programme for the Government.
Commenting on the 2019 Budget, Wereh said the budget allocation next year was looking good as they saw some changes in the road infrastructure throughout the country.
“It’s a good thing to see some changes on the main highway. Roads being the pillar policy of the government, we see their commitment both in good times and bad times, ensuring that there is funding to keep our roads open and accessible.
“We commend the Treasury, National Planning and Finance for being innovative during these tough times to come up with a budget that gives hope to all of us the major departments.”
Wereh said the Works Department had a huge responsibility of up-keeping and getting major roads fixed.
“From the outset, things are looking okay for us, important thing is to sustain funding for ongoing programmes,” he said.
“Main highways take up loads and freight and need to be maintained often so that is where funding needs to be sustained, and continuity is key factor for us.
“The budget is alighted to see some continuity in the ongoing programme so we have to be creative to ensure we maximise on the limited resource that is available.”
