21-year-old charged with raping cousin

A 21-YEAR-OLD man was charged in a committal court in Lae with raping a 16-year-old girl from Jan 1 to April 26.
Magistrate Pious Tapil on Friday read out the charge to Abraham Nokondi, from Ambunti’s Aipom village in East Sepik, and remanded him in Buimo Prison.
He told Nokondi that if the bail applications were ready, the court would adjourn his matter sooner.
Otherwise, the next adjournment date would be on Sept 5.
The police summary in court stated that Nokondi was the victim’s cousin brother and they stayed in Podo Block in Tent City in Lae.
Nokondi allegedly had persistent sexual intercourse with the girl from Jan 1 to April 26 and had, after every rape told the girl not to tell anyone because it was between them.
The court noted that after the last rape, the girl was on her term-break holiday had some time to think and recalled an awareness about sexual abuse at school.
She then reported the matter to her mother.
