THE three policemen charged with attempted murder over the alleged beating up of 21-year-old Samuel Naraboi have been suspended from work.
Internal Investigation Unit director Chief Superintendent Emil Alpha confirmed the suspension of the three officers.
“The disciplinary charges have been laid and they are officially suspended from duties,” he said.
They have been granted K1,000 bail each while they await their court case to answer to the charges of attempted murder and of the deprivation of liberty.
More charges are expected to be laid against them. The alleged assault on Samuel, the son of policeman Benjamin Naraboi, took place in Waigani on Feb 27.
He was with a friend who was also allegedly assaulted.
Samuel was in a coma in hospital for more than a week.
His father Senior Constable Benjamin said the family was happy to see him wake up.
“He doesn’t say much but that is what his mother and I expect. But we are pleased that he is awake and we are not rushing him to speak.
“The family wants to thank all our family and friends who prayed for Samuel’s recovery,” he said.
