MORE than 16,000 students who attend Flexible Open Distance Education (Fode) are sitting their national examination this year, says Fode principal Anthony Rayappan.
Rayappan told The National that out of the 16,043 who sat the exams for grades eight, 10 and 12 nationwide, seven were students with special needs (disabilities).
“There are 95 Grade Eight and 6,744 Grade 10 students doing their exam this week and 8,865 Grade 12 students will have their exam next week,” he said.
Rayappan said another 339 students would sit their Matriculation Studies programme.

Meanwhile, Fode academic registrar Anna Liza Cale said Fode’s course outlines and syllabus were same as the system schools.
The only difference is that they sit their examinations separately.
Cale said they prepared their own examination because of the distance learning and the styles and formats.
“Our students are non-school leavers and they can apply to secondary and tertiary institutions if they want to after completing their exams,” she said.
Cale said their aim was to give students a second chance to further their studies.
