THIRTY-nine trainees from the PNG Power Limited Training College signed an agreement with the National Apprenticeship Trade Testing Board last week to undergo a four-year training programme.
The agreement will be in place for a period of four years and will allow for the trainees to achieve the status of certified trades men and women after completing the programme.
PNG Power organisational and development manager Andrew Kavanamur said the batch of trainees who signed the indenture was the biggest in the history of PPL.
“The indenture will become a legal binding entity between the apprentices and NATTB.
“PNG Power Training College continues to acknowledge the support of stakeholders, NATTB, National Training Council and TVET, who continue to provide support in terms of up skilling and developing the human resource.
“The signing is a big step in achieving trades man and woman status in the country,” Kavanamur said.
NABBT and PPL have been working closely in terms of competence based training, apprentice training and trade testing.
In 2015, PPL recruited 50 apprentices across all trades from which 39 passed and were eligible to sign the indenture of which four are women. PPL general manager of human resource, Arnold Harriman assured the trainees that PPL would remain committed in training them during their four-year apprentice programme and urged them to be disciplined and committed to become certified tradesmen and women. “On behalf of the management of PPL and PPL board, I am honoured to be here to witness this event. After you receive your trade certificate, that is not the end, you must continue on. Discipline and commitment will get you there,” Harriman said.
