A SPECIALIST on the Free Trade Zone (FTZ) concept, Tony Restall, will be visiting PNG this month.
This was revealed by Sam Manikot, the chairman of the Gazelle Agro-Industrial Special Economic Zone and Rabaul Tuna Export Processing Zone in East New Britain.
Manikot said Restall was the Government-appointed specialist on the 17 FTZ projects in the country, including the two in ENB.
He said Restall would set up the ENB projects.
The National Executive Commission (NEC) approved the two FTZ projects on Nov 19.
Manikot said the development of the 15 FTZ projects in the country was incomplete although so much funding had been allocated towards the projects.
The projects will be:

  • MAKING optimum use of available resources;
  • PROMOTING economic development through secondary processing;
  • ENCOURAGING community participation and promoting family life;
  • MAKING rural life attractive;
  • REDUCING disparities; and
  • REDUCING law and order issues.

“The Government is focusing on the two FTZ projects in the province, as pilot FTZ projects in the country,” Manikot said.
“Therefore, it is important for Restall to visit the proposed project sites.”
