A WALK to promote the global campaign against poverty was held in Port Moresby yesterday and attended by more than 500 members of the Church of Christ.
The walk began at 6am from Lamana where the Church of Christ church is, down to the Parliament House roundabout and back.
Resident minister in Port Moresby Lito Vasco said it was a charitable walk hosted by the international religious organisation to not only help save souls but also to help those in need.
It was also to promote efforts to alleviate poverty in the world.
“This is a holistic approach as taught by our Lord Jesus Christ, we have a duty to love our neighbours as we love ourselves,” he said.
“We won’t deny poverty. Poverty is real and exists in communities and all around the world.
“In PNG, there is poverty. But not really as I can say Papua New Guineans have everything. It is maybe our own laziness to make things happen or government’s lack of attention to address the
cross-cutting factors that lead to poverty.
“No one in PNG has been reported to have died because of hunger, unlike in other countries who are dying of hunger.
“The Church of Christ has congregations in Lae, Madang, Wewak and Goroka who are walking also in their centers to tell the country that PNG is not poor but needs to share and help one another through the love of Christ,” Vasco said.
