ABOUT 70 small business operators have been selected to promote Papua New Guinea’s products and services in the small-medium enterprise expo in Malaysia in June.

The locals particularly from the small medium enterprise sector will attend the annual SME Innovation Showcase SMIDEX 2013 at the invitation of Expo organisers, the SME Corporation of Malaysia.

The SMIDEX 2013 will be held concurrently with the ASEAN Korea SME Conference on June 12 and 13 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Both events will be officiated by the prime minister of Malaysia.

Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry Richard Maru said: “The ministry was officially invited by Hafsah Hashim, chief executive officer of SME Corporation, Malaysia to organise the participation of about 70 PNG business operators in the SME sector to showcase their products and services at this year’s international SME exposition”.

Maru said organisers selected as a theme “SME’s changing the game”. It should serve as a platform for both Malaysia and foreign SME’s to exhibit products, innovative technologies and services available for sourcing through trading arrangements.

He said the expo would provide immense benefits to  small business operators in the SME sector.

Maru said participants would have a one-to-one business session and provide an opportunity for business links with businessmen and women.”

The Small Business Development Corporation which is  leading the delegation said it had received overwhelming interest from the SME sector.

Acting managing director Henry Marasembi said 52 business operators had registered for the SME expo.
