BURIAL fees at the 9-Mile public cemetery have increased from K160 to K220 for those 12 years and below, and K330 for those 13 years and above, an official says.
National Capital District Commission (NCDC) acting city manager Ravu Frank said the increase in the burial fee was to cover the cost of maintenance and management of the cemetery.
Frank said the fee of K160 had been there for years and the increase was long overdue.
He said a lot of work needed to be done in maintaining the cemetery hence the increase in fees.
One of the projects being done now is the fencing of the public cemetery.
As part of the new normal and Coronavirus (Covid-19) protocols, all burial arrangements and enquiries are to be done at the cemetery and not at City Hall.
For burial arrangements, documents that must be provided to the officers at the cemetery include the warrant to bury, death certificate and the bank deposit docket.
Burial fees are to be paid at BSP and can also be done using the Eftpos machine available at the cemetery.
The new burial fee was effective from Tuesday.
