GOVERNOR Powes Parkop says he has plan for education in the National Capital District.

Speaking at the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the Department of Education and the National Capital District Commission to transfer the functions and powers of education in NCD, Parkop said they wanted all children to have quality education. He told the Minister for Education, Nick Kuman Secretary Dr Uke Kombra, that his vision was to create space for children who missed out school.

“Schools (elementary and primary) close at 2pm and we still have 3pm to 8pm to go and so we can still cater for the children missing out on school,” Parkop said.

“We need to convert the pyramid system into a  tree system. We have 43 elementary and 42 primary schools but only few secondary schools and this is a problem throughout the country,” he said.

“We need to change the structure to see elementary students find space in the primary level and right through to secondary schools.

“We want to build more secondary schools and technical schools,” he said adding that each school should have academic and technical well a technical stream.
