Patrol leaders undergo training

SCOUTS leaders from Lae and Bulolo districts attended a skills training camp to enhance their ability in mobilising patrols.
The leadership training for the 80 patrol leaders in 15 scouting groups involved the non-sponsored and sponsored troops.
The non-sponsored troops were from city settlements and suburbs were from Lae Kwila, Uni Block, Igam Block and Bumbu.
The sponsored groups, mostly primary and secondary schools were Lanakapi, Tent Siti, Salvation Army, St. Patrick, Taraka, Bowali, Huonville, St. Martin, Milfordhaven, Busu Secondary, Bugandi, Watut and Grace Memorial Secondary School.
Lae district area commissioner Morvin Noel said the training was aim at enriching patrol leaders’ capabilities to understand their roles and responsibilities to;

• maintain discipline in respective patrols (six persons per group);
• conduct patrol training and assist section leaders manage troops’ welfare;
• recommend patrol members toward achieving any given tasks;
• contribute meaningfully in discussions and activities with patrol leaders from scouting troops; and,
• represent interest of patrol members in scouts council meetings.

The patrol leaders were also trained on hiking, becoming quarter master, scribes and first aid skills.
Noel said a patrol in a scouting troop was the pillar which ensured the existence of the movement.
He said the scouting movement had the potential to shape children’s mindsets to become productive and law-abiding citizens.
