Lae police station gets K30,000 facelift

China Town in Lae has a presentable looking police station.
The refurbished station was opened on Saturday.
Work was done by Lae-based rice distribution company Homestate Ltd.
The company presented the station two computers, a printer, office consumables and furniture.
At the presentation were Lae Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jr, his deputy Chief Inspector Fred Kaiwa, Lae Central Police Station commander Sergeant James Luan and Homestate owner Tony Wetwattana.
Wetwattana said Homestate spent more than K30,000 to have the station renovated and provided logistical support.
He said the gesture was part of the company’s social obligation to assist communities in which they did business.
“Police work hard to fight crime. So we believe that by helping the police they will do their work better,” he said. “We are doing our part to help police reduce crime in the city.”
Wetwattana said the gesture was small but he hoped it would help the police.
Wagambie thanked Homestate for the assistance and said it would boost the performances of their seven officers based at the station.
“We need community support to do our work,” he said.
“When you see crimes being committed you must report it to the police.”
