Teacher raising funds for fees to study in Philippines

A YOUNG man of Happohondong village in the Yabim-Mape local-level government of Finschhafen, Morobe, has been selected for a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in political science in the Philippines from June.
Freddy Sifumac has been teaching at primary schools in Morobe for the past 15 years and decided to broaden his knowledge further in the political arena.
“I am currently doing fundraising drives to fund my school fees there and I want to come up with a reasonable amount by May next year,” he told The National.
Coming from a family background that could not do much to support his overseas study programme, Sifumac is calling on his local MP, businesshouses and anyone to chip in to help.
He said he had been raising money through poultry farming and other initiatives but time was against him.
“My fee for the overseas study is K30,000 and I need to raise at least K20,000 for upfront payment,” he said.
Sifumac said had paid the university’s placement fee to arrange for his travel to the Philippines next year and to secure a space for study.
