Park marks Wildlife Day by focussing on issues

Port Moresby Nature Park in conjunction with major partner ExxonMobil celebrated World Wildlife Day last Saturday.
The celebration was attended by expatriates and communities in the city including a few visiting Apec delegates who were out to see Port Moresby.
Conservation organisations in Papua New Guinea and abroad showcased their projects and there were also other fun activities.
Port Moresby Nature Park general manager Michelle McGeorge said the event was just an awareness about issues affecting wildlife particularly trafficking which was very common.
McGeorge said what they were doing was trying to get people to understand what animals in PNG were threatened and what other issues were there.
She said the event was also about conservation groups from all over the country sharing what work they were doing.
“This is actually part of the three-day workshop under the support of ExxonMobil and today is day three where we want to share the work we do across the country,” she said.
“We just want learn information from each other so we just have to actually strengthen our partnership with everybody.
“Some of these conservation groups are working in the remotest parts of PNG, so this is a fantastic opportunity for them to promote their work and also talk to the community on how they can save their wildlife.”
McGeorge said the Port Moresby Nature Park was committed to environment conservation and using the opportunity to spread the message, they got 17 conservation organisations to participate in the World Wildlife Day event.
