Push made for God’s laws in workshop targeting sorcery

MEMBERS of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG have been asked to change their mindset, embrace the 10 Commandments and fear God.
Head bishop Reverend Jack Urave made the call at the conclusion of a three-day Constitutional Law and Reform Commission workshop which addressed sorcery through strategic church participation.
The workshop drew 50 participants.
Urame told Lutheran Church memebers not to practise evil that would harm and destroy human lives.
He told them to behave positively and support each other because human life was created by God.
“I encourage Lutheran Church members to bring peace, harmony and justice in communities.”
“In this workshop we have talked about how we can address sorcery related violence. So we came up with vision that we want to see communities in PNG live in peace and harmony.”
He said to achieve the vision the church must take the positive role and respond to the issues using their established systems like:

• Teaching the topics in the education system; and
• Educating pastors to give positive information to people in the communities through in-services, Sunday services and through the different options the churches have.

Urame said there are opportunities the church can use to bring the message to the people.
