Teachers attend workshop to discuss how to help students

FORTY teachers from East and West Sepik recently participated in a workshop to discuss how they can help students cope with issues.
Participant Mathilda Naraboi, a teacher at Saint Mary’s Primary School in Wewak, said the three-day workshop which ended last Wednesday in Vanimo was facilitated by two youths from the Lasallian Catholic Youth Ministry based in Sydney.
“The workshop assisted us teachers to look at issues facing students socially, academically, even spiritually,” she said.
“How we can use our leadership and governance capabilities to help them in the classroom.”
There were 10 primary school teachers from Vanimo, five from Aitape, in West Sepik, and 25 from Wewak, in East Sepik.
Naraboi said they discussed youth heritage, youth ministry, leadership and governance.
“Today in schools all over the country, teachers are finding it difficult to cope with student issues such as school fights, negative behaviour in the classrooms, and poor academic performance,” Naraboi said.
She said such workshop showed them ways to could re-strategise their classroom duties to positively impact the lives of their students.
The workshop was also part of the renewal of the Lasallian Ministry in the Momase region.
The ofrder was was founded by the Catholic Saint St John De La Salle.
