Business and government must find ways to produce affordable food for low-income earners, says Apec Business Advisory Council (Abac) PNG chairman Wayne Golding.
This will be one agenda for the Food Security Summit that will be held in Port Moresby next month.
Abac PNG will be working with Department of Agriculture and Livestock and National Fisheries Authority to make sure the country’s agenda is at the forefront during the week-long meet.
“Food security deals with the aspect of how you can look after your own food supply chain for our own people,” Golding said.
“It may mean that movement of imports coming in for what we don’t produce.
“There are other aspects where we need to uplift and this is the key of the meeting.
“Abac’s influence on this meeting is purely on policy change, and the ideals that basically we need to start looking at our food production so that we can look after ourselves.
“That also has a tremendous effect on foreign exchange demand which will reduce. The other thing is, we have got to make sure that the pricing is affordable and within the aspects of the majority of people as low-income earners.”
