Netball picking up interest in Gulf

Netball competitions are slowly gaining traction in Gulf after some years off.
Kerema competition president Vaina Liriope said with only one court, she had to arrange with basketball so that there was no clashes with the use of the venue in the district.
“We only have a senior women’s competition,” Liriope said.
“If we had an extra court, we would be able to run a junior competition as well and maybe send a squad to regional or national netball tournaments.”
Liriope said she wanted to coordinate with the smaller netball competitions in East Kerema and Malalaua to stage a provincial tournament later this year in preparation for the regional and national championships. “We have been told to do a proposal but we do not know what the requirements are and the location of the Gulf Provincial Sports Trust office.”
Liriope said Gulf sporting officials agreed that there must be a concerted effort to expose local talent at the regional and national levels.
