Pastor calls for stronger family bonds

A family based on God is the foundation of the church, a church leader says.
Speaking to parishioners of Holy Family Parish in Hohola, Port Moresby, on Sunday, Bishop Denny Guka said that Papua New Guinea cannot prosper without building families on godly principles.
“Family is a small church.
“Family is the foundation of the church. The family alter is where you build and grow and mature. A family is God’s gift to us,” he said.
“There is always a family and all of us belong to a family. That is important because God is in your family. If we can’t recognise this then we miss the whole point.”
Guka said that was why a family alter was important.
“It is as important as the church altar. If we miss that truth we will miss everything. We must be part of God’s plan to build this nation and his church.”
Guka added that Sunday mass should not be the only time families get together.
“We must read the Bible, pray and sing together every day as a family,” he said.
“Everything begins at home. All of us are responsible for the family. God is the centre of our families.”
Guka who is the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Port Moresby was the special guest for the Holy Family Anglican Parish annual church day celebrations on Sunday.
Holy Family Parish celebrated its 58th Church Day with dances from the Sunday school children, cash donations from the parish ethnic groups and cutting of the cake.
Holy Family was originally a daughter church of St Francis’ Anglican Church at Koki.
Holy Family was built under the direction of the Servant Brothers of St Francis (SSF) and was dedicated in 1965.
