People of Middle Fly have thanked the Government and the people of Papua New Guinea for disaster relief supplies that reached their communities after the Feb 26 earthquake.
The people living at Bamu, North Fly bank and Fly River estuary villages said they were grateful for the assistance given to them when most needed.
Middle Fly MP Roy Biyama, who is also the Minister for Correctional Services, thanked the national Government, donor agencies, businesses, individuals and the Disaster Coordination Office for the relief assistance.
Biyama said the final delivery of relief supplies departed Port Moresby on the mv Iyapa for Middle Fly. Distribution started at Bamu estuary and North Fly bank and further upriver at Suki and Aiambak.
The people acknowledged that the third batch of relief supplies of food, water and medicine arrived on Aug 20.
Water tanks with 9000-litre capacity arrived in early August in the second batch.
A report said two small barges and banana boats transported the supplies through small creeks along the flood plains of Bamu and Fly rivers.
It said that while there were no major issues with the distribution of food at Bamu, a lot of threats and complaints were received from locals at North Fly bank and Fly estuary villages.
The report said wards had different listings of names of people.
