Disaster meet sets reporting targets

Southern Highlands disaster coordination team held its first meeting with district chief executives, stakeholders and other partners yesterday.
This was to discuss effective disaster operations and reporting before going into the restoration phase.
There had been no communication since the civil unrest in July.
The meeting was to bring all parties together and discuss a way forward.
It was also to review strengthening of the disaster risk management team.
Southern Highlands’ deputy administrator Fiebik Kilip, who chaired the meeting in the absence of acting provincial administrator Joseph Cajestan, said the breakdown in communication had affected relief efforts, “Partners such as Red Cross, World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nation Children Fund (Unicef), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UN Women and others worked in isolation,” he said.
“There might have been some duplication.
“To avoid that, beginning today and after every two weeks, we will meet at Agiru Centre and furbish reports that will give us a clear picture on where we are, and the next step to take.
“We must have corporate dialogue and a unified reporting system.
“After the resumption of the restoration phase, we will have reassessment and go into the distribution of start-up-kits plan.”
All stakeholders and partners present at the meeting agreed to meet every two weeks to submit their reports.
