Bulolo supports work of churches with a 10pc tithe

THE Bulolo district development authority (DDA) has acknowledged the importance of churches in the district with 10 per cent tithe offerings.
The DDA, through its church assistance programme, began its support beginning with four mainline churches – Catholic, Lutheran, United and Anglican – with each getting K10,000 last Sunday.
District chief executive Tae Gwambelek and MP Sam Basil distributed the money.
Anglican All Saints’ Parish chairman David Bure and treasurer Priscilla Kari acknowledged DDA’s support at a time when the congregation was raising funds to rehabilitate its iconic rundown church building.
Bure said the parish did not have many members.
United Church pastor Rev Puri Lama thanked the DDA for supporting churches despite its many other priorities.
The funding will be used to complete a new church building to be opened later this year.
“All denominations contributed one way or another to social and spiritual wellbeing of our people,” Basil said.
“They are the faces and symbols of love, peace and joy that humans seek refuge in.”
He said the Anglican and Catholic churches have some historic ageing buildings in Wau and Bulolo township that needed to be restored. Basil said DDA would also assist the Revival and Pentecostal churches.
A trip to assist churches in Wau did not happen because the bridge at Wandumi had been washed away by floods. The St Steven Lutheran youths received musical instruments.
