GOVERNMENT gifts should be distributed in an honest way, Western Highlands Governor Tom Olga says.
Olga made the comment at the launching of the Kuning Kama Development Association last Saturday at Wela village, just outside Mt Hagen city.
He said when theft and corrupt practices were involved, people suffered.
Olga said there were money and resources available to deliver basic government services but it depended on how they were being managed.
He said even though Wela was within the city, there was no electricity, water supply and sealed roads because what
had been given had not been properly managed and distributed.
“Now that there is an association in place, people will get much of their support through it and this will help
others in future,” Olga said.
He said people must do things that were useful like forming an association or youth group to help them.
Olga gave K30,000 to the association and another K35,000 for other projects in the community.
He gave another K30,000 to Kuta Primary School and urged the people to use it wisely so that it would
help them and their children.
He said the government was here to help and they had to look after what was given.
Former Works secretary Alphonse Nikints commended the Moge Eltimb people for coming up with the idea to form the association.
Nikints said the association was the vehicle that would drive development.
He said whatever was given must be well looked after so it could help the community and the people.
