THE deferment of the Grade 8 examinations has affected the attitude of students towards examinations, a concerned parent says.
The parent of a Grade 8 student attending Boreboa Primary School in Port Moresby said her 16-year-old had lost interest in studies after the Department of Education changed of examination dates.
The woman, who did not want to be named, said her daughter, like most of her peers, “have gone about doing other activities instead of concentrating on their studies”.
She said although the delay provided extra time for students to study, it had an adverse effect on students.
She said her daughter now went off to play sports during the day and watched movies in the evening.
She said it was disappointing for parents who had made preparations for their children’s big day.
The parent said they made special meals, helped students with their studies, stationery, dedicated prayers among other activities to ensure the day was special for the students.
She said her daughter had lost her chance at a part-time employment that was secured for the holidays because of the exams postponement.
