UOG agrees to continue to offer certificate in tertiary admission studies

The decision to put on hold the certificate in tertiary admissions studies (CTAS) programme at the University of Goroka (UOG) has been rescinded.
The UOG academic senate last month made a decision to put on hold the above programme in order to allow for reviews to be made.
After agreeing to review the programme, the management has decided to continue to offer the CTAS programme to the public this semester.
According to vice-chancellor, Musawe Sinebare, parents and guardians enquiring into the programme can now rest assured that enrolment was now open.
CTAS is a certificate course designed for those who completed grade 12 or matriculation studies and had made UOG their first choice of preference, but did not meet the eligibility requirements to upgrade.
CTAS students must have a GPA of 1.7 to 2.4 and will be selected from the list of applicants submitted.
The programme costs K300 per module per semester.
CTAS is one part of six programmes offered by distance and flexible education (DFL).
The other programmes offered by DFL are bachelors in education in school management (in-service), diploma in business management, diploma in business accounting, diploma in tourism and hospitality and early childhood learning.
The only master’s programme under DFL is masters in leadership and business management.
Sinebare said it was regrettable that parents and students were disadvantaged during the time taken for review but “UOG is committed to ensuring that the ‘gown to town’ concept is brought nearer to them”.
