THE Department of Health has come up with a new clinical governance programme on providing direct good patient care.
This was revealed at the week-long National Health Service standard roll-out workshop held at Mt Hagen’s Highlander Hotel to implement this component of the national health plan 2011-20.
The department’s chief medical officer and executive manager medical standards Dr Goa Tau said under this concept, all provincial hospitals, health facilities, regional clinicians and chief clinicians would be accountable to the chief medical officer and the government.
He said the workshop was to advocate and practise good clinical governance as opposed to corporate governance.
“It’s one of the vehicles of service delivery of improving as per key result areas of the national health plan,” Tau said.
The workshop was attended by the director of nursing services, director of medical services, regional deputy chief specialists and the chief clinical specialists from the Highlands and Momase regions and sponsored by the health department in partnership with AusAID.
Tau thanked the AusAID and the department of health for their partnership in sponsoring the workshop.
The second series of the workshop for the New Guinea Islands and the Southern regions will be from Dec 2.
