Church carries out mid-term review

National

UNITED church leaders, including senior laity numbering more than 77, met in Port Moresby this week to conduct a mid-term review of the church’s 2016-2020 national development plan.
The “Missions’ consultations 2019” of the United church in PNG revealed that maintenance of membership and unmet expectations of the people had to be addressed by consistent focus on the Word of God.
Through the updated evangelism strategy and plans based on the church’s evangelism policy approved last year and quality leadership, the church hoped to increase its membership and improve its services.
The church’s leaders recognised that communication, cooperation and coordination of the agreed programmes at regional and national levels were key to successful delivery of its social and spiritual services.
This would be supported by the assembly office for regions requiring assistance with the implementation of their programmes and services.
United church in PNG moderator Rev Bernard Siai said the church’s development focus would be on health, education, and other social programmes such as responding to disasters, climate change, and social justice, but it was equally important that the church prioritised its financial and leadership accountability.
