THE Sohe development authority (SDDA) in Northern got its act together over two weeks and presented its acquittals for four years to Department of Implementation and Rural Development (DIRD) in Port Moresby yesterday.
Acting district finance manager Margret Moide said the acquittals covered district services improvement programme (DSIP) funds and district support grants (DSGs) from 2015 to 2018.
“This is indeed the first time I came here to present the acquittals and I am very pleased and thankful to the leadership of our MP Henry Amuli and the board of Sohe DDA,” she said.
Moide said Sohe was one of the districts that was now on the top in terms of its record of expenditures.
“Political leadership was critical and I commend our MP and DDA members’ cooperation to conclude all these acquittals within two weeks,” she said.
Amuli said it was an important aspect of good governance to see that funds received from the Government was expended properly and acquitted.
“Sohe has been one of the low-performing districts in the country, ranked somewhere in the 70s out of the 89 districts and we want to change that,” he said.
“Our aim this year is to be in the top 10 and in the top five the following year, so I am very thankful to everyone who made this possible.”
